Wow! What a Shock...
My short story presentation was on "The Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin and as soon as I started reading the story I was a little confused. The story was not what I expected and came as a shock to me. The main character, Mrs. Mallard acted like any normal woman would if she had just been told he husband had past away in a tragic railroad disaster, but then she acted a little out of the ordinary. I was not expecting her to be happy about her husband dying. Mrs. Mallard was so happy to be free and it was like she was a prisoner in her own house and marriage. I did not understand why she was happy until I watched a video and did a little more research on the story. Even though the research states that her marriage was not a good one, these are in fact just opinions of people because Chopin left it up to the readers to come up with their own conclusions and thoughts. I also did not think that Mrs. Mallard would pass away the second her husband walked in the door and she found out he was not dead. I thought the ending would be happy and that the couple would realize why they love each other and stuff like that. Instead, Mrs. Mallard dies because she was so shocked to see her husband and didn't really want him to be alive.
